Saibun Manurung is a senior advocate and legal practitioner with extensive expertise in land litigation, criminal law, civil law, as well as public policy advocacy and human rights.
In land and agrarian law, he has a broad track record in handling strategic land disputes. His experience includes successfully winning a land dispute at the Mempawah District Court, mediating and restoring the land ownership rights of rubber plantation farmers in South Sumatra (2011), representing Kepanjen farmers in Malang during an agrarian conflict with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) (2012), as well as securing compensation for evicted residents in Kalimalang, Bekasi against PT KAI (2012) and retired families in Senen, Central Jakarta (2019).
In criminal law, he is experienced in handling commercial cases as well as civil liberties protection. His track record includes a granted pretrial petition regarding the criminalization of student activists (2013), acting as lead counsel for the family of a murder victim committed by a TNI member resulting in a 10-year prison sentence by the Military Court (2011), and providing legal representation for a juvenile offender in a theft case within the Pongkor underground gold mine area, securing a significant sentence reduction from the panel of judges.
Meanwhile, in civil law, labor law, and public advocacy, he actively handles various labor cases, criminalization of workers, pro-bono defense for evicted residents of Jatinegara (2011), and public policy advocacy regarding the establishment of the GKI Yasmin house of worship (2012). Prior to joining JBD Law Firm, he served as Director of the Community Legal Aid Center / PBHM (2016–2020) and Public Interest Lawyer at PBHI (2010–2016).
